The room was spacious and comfortable, but the stay left me disappointed. We had booked two nights and stayed here for one night 18 months ago, because the room didn't match what staff had described when we booked and had several odd features. The duplex room was dark all the way to the bathroom, and both the bathroom door and fan were noisy. Most of the staff were good, but management handled things terribly. They wouldn't refund the second night's accommodation and were very unpleasant about it. I wondered if I was being overly sensitive after coming to Ireland for a family funeral a few days earlier, but seeing other reviews about management's attitude makes me think it's fair to warn future guests. In a country known for some of the finest hotel hospitality, this was a real letdown.

We were lucky to have sunshine during a gorgeous October weekend at the self catering at Connemara Sands. We had two terrific dinners at the hotel, with super service, and the breakfasts were excellent too.

The dinner was the best food I had on my whole trip around Ireland, and the spa features were fun, especially the hot tub with a view. It was lovely to have a place right on the water as a break during the trip. The room was just as advertised, and I was very happy with the stay.

The rooms were clean and comfortable, and the hotel spas and sauna made for a relaxing stay. We could reach the sea in under a 3-minute walk, with crystal-clear water and a beautiful beach. Staff went out of their way to help, the buffet breakfast was exquisite, and dinner in the glass veranda was sublime, especially the salmon meal.

The room itself was spacious and comfortable, with a TV lounge area. The location is pretty remote, quite a drive from the nearest town or other amenities, and it was hard to get taxis to the lovely Irish bars, which was disappointing. On our very stormy night, a trap door in the ceiling kept flapping. Hotel staff should have caught that.
