Hylands Burren Hotel

The cooked breakfast was lovely, and the staff were lovely too. We slept comfortably, and the room was clean in general. For the price and location, it was a good hotel. That said, the place looked more dated than the photos suggested. The old carpet and windows showed their age, the shower curtain had mildew, and the shower was clogged. There were lots of spiders, plus dead flies around corners and windowsills that hadn't been cleaned. The fruit and juice tasted old, with a fizzy quality to them.

We’ve stopped here for a meal while travelling several times over the past ten years, and it’s been consistently excellent. The burgers have become our favourite. If you're lucky, there's also a lovely traditional music session in the evening, with beautiful singing as well as tunes.

We had great parking, though I wish they had a few EV chargers. Service was quick and attentive, and the evening meal was top quality. The room was fine and we slept comfortably. Both breakfast and dinner were extremely good. Their Brazilian chef really cares about the ingredients and preparation, and his fish chowder is the best we've tasted anywhere. He also plays a Peruvian drum brilliantly and joins the evening entertainment.

The place itself is lovely, and so are the staff, but the food I had was just gross. I ordered lamb for dinner. It was raw and red inside, yet as hard as a rock from the Burren to cut. Shame on the cook.
