Linda and I spent a couple of days here in June, and the people were just wonderful, real salt-of-the-earth folks. While the lady of the house was repainting the fence by the road, we joined her out in the lovely, expansive front field and helped. Sharing stories and local history with them was such a joy. The home is charming, and as we learned, it’s also a working dairy farm.

Johnny and Thérèse were lovely hosts. The original B&B has closed, but the next generation now offers an apartment for two down the lane beside the busy dairy farm. They leave fresh unpasteurised milk, curranty bread, and scones with butter and jam as a welcome treat. Benjy, their Bernese mountain dog, greeted us charmingly, though he can be a little feisty if you’re not used to dogs. I made a friend after giving him a good rub. A genuine rural stay surrounded by farmland.

The ladies were so kind and made a real effort with my vegan diet, including porridge made with nut milk, fresh local fruit, and plenty of other treats. Breakfast should please you even if you’re not vegan. The rooms were clean, cozy, and well suited to guests’ needs, and I was lucky to meet the big, friendly dogs who live there. The house is in a quiet spot with a beautiful view from the front. I loved my stay at this B&B and will come back whenever I’m in the area.

The bedrooms look out toward the mountains, and breakfast was delicious, with smoked salmon, homemade breads and scones, fresh berries, and other fruit. Rooms were spacious, the beds very comfortable, and everywhere was extremely clean. It’s pet friendly and sits a little outside Clonakilty village, off the beaten track. A lovely place to stay.

Norma gave us such a warm welcome, and after three nights it felt like home away from home. I slept brilliantly in one of the comfiest beds, and breakfast was fit for a king. Ard Na Greine was exceptional. Thank you, Norma.
