Maldron Hotel & Leisure Centre, Oranmore

The room was a good price for a Sunday night, and the hotel itself was clean, tidy, and nice. The staff were excellent. But it was freezing inside, with people wearing coats and scarves in the bar while eating and drinking. The prices were astronomical too, €7.70 for a pint of Coors, and the food was expensive as well. That wouldn’t tempt me back.

The hotel’s a bit outside town, so without a car you’ll need a taxi or Uber. There’s a movie theater right by reception for a lazy evening, plus some stores nearby. We found the room clean and cozy, and the staff were always helpful. Even at the busiest time of year, Christmas, they kept the service, cleanliness, and food quality up. Well done, everyone!

Breakfast had loads of choice and we had no complaints. The dinner menu could use more options, and service was very slow, especially on the first night, though what we ordered looked good and tasted great. The servers were pleasant. We stayed over midterm break, and the facilities were clean and tidy. The pool and changing rooms were clean, but the shower water was very cold, so I used the one in our room instead. The jacuzzi and sauna were crowded, probably because it was busy, though I still enjoyed them. My son and husband liked the gym. Online check-in and checkout are handy, but I miss the personal contact with staff. Everyone we dealt with was helpful and polite. We enjoyed our stay.

We’ll definitely come back to the Maldron. The room was clean and great, with towels, bathrobes, slippers, tea, coffee, bottled water, and biscuits. After our night out, Lorcan and his colleague on Saturday were fantastic, making cocktails and happy to get us whatever we wanted. Aron at reception checked that we were all right both nights, then showed us to the lift at bedtime and made sure we had everything. Earlier, Caitlin welcomed us, checked us in, and explained the facilities. We had a stunning meal in the bar, and Shannon, our waitress, kept checking that we had what we needed. The bus into Galway cost only €2.40, and the stop was a 10-minute walk from the hotel. Thanks to Karyn for recommending it and arranging our booking. What a fabulous team.
