Skeffington ArmsHotel

We only needed a night at the Skeffington Arms Hotel after getting off our 13 hour bus trip from Dublin to the Cliffs of Moher in Galway. It’s ideally placed for Shop Street, Galway’s main street, and a convenient walk from the paths beside the River Corrib, which divides the city on the way to Galway Cathedral. The staff were nice and helpful, as people had been everywhere in Galway and Dublin. Our room was good, though the view was just a tiny cavity at the back of the hotel. We heard the bar music when we arrived at midnight, but our room was far enough away not to be disturbed. Breakfast had hot options that the waiter takes your order for once you’re seated. There really should be information about that. We and several others seemed disappointed by the other choices already laid out, so I’ve taken off a star. Maybe it was just a temporary setup, since apparently breakfast was in a temporary room when we visited in May 2026?

The rooms were clean and spacious, and the staff were very courteous. They even called after we’d checked out to make sure we hadn’t left anything behind. The hotel sits right in the city centre, near the tourist activity, with some more local areas about a 15 minute walk away. We could hear the downstairs bar’s music until 2am, then the staff cleaning up afterward. Our room was a few floors directly above it, so a different part of the hotel might be quieter.

The Skeff Bar attached to the hotel is top notch, and the location is great too, across from a park and near plenty of pubs and restaurants. This was our favorite hotel out of many. After we left a personal item behind, the front desk staff were PHENOMENAL and helped us get it shipped. Truly wonderful experience.

The location is superb, and our room was clean and comfortable. The staff were lovely, but the breakfast service was a huge letdown. We waited almost an hour for a full Irish breakfast, and it wasn’t hot when it arrived. The stale smell in the lobby hit me as soon as I walked in. We booked based on the reviews, but unfortunately wouldn’t stay again.
