When everything works, this three star place is great. But if something goes wrong, the lack of anyone on site makes it awkward. Our in-room coffee maker had a problem, and dealing with it meant calling and waiting, which didn't seem worth the time. We just bought coffee at the cafe next door. The location is good, but there’s no parking on site. We stayed two nights and used the touchless check-in, so we didn’t interact with anyone. There’s no easy place to pull up and unload passengers and bags either. They recommend an overnight parking lot a few blocks away, so be ready to walk there with your luggage. No worries, it never rains in Galway.

The mattress was comfortably firm, there were plenty of pillows, and our room was spacious and well equipped. We spent three nights in room 209 at the Abbeygate, and the location was spot on. Check-in went smoothly and it was quiet throughout our stay. The shower water kept getting hotter, and there wasn’t a reliable way to control the temperature. A couple of towel hooks in the bathroom would help. A mini fridge or complimentary bottled water would have been a nice extra, but I managed without either. I’d happily return and recommend the hotel to anyone staying in Galway.
I contacted them in time to cancel, but they charged me anyway. They never replied to my email, and calling only got me a central voicemail service. I left my name, booking reference and number, but no one called back. They didn’t even respond through booking.com. I won’t use them again.
There’s no reception and everything is self service, but the location is excellent. The rooms are modern, clean and lovely for a few days. I’d definitely come back.
The location is great, and there’s parking across the road from the hotel. But the bed was very uncomfortable and the security guard was rude. Checkout was at 11, yet around 10 the cleaners were talking loudly over the hoover, which kept banging against the skirting board.
