At Caledonia

Room 4 was spacious, with a huge bathroom, though the small double bed in the family room was a squeeze we managed. It's around a 20-minute walk into central Douglas. I was glad I switched from another place on the same street: this one answered all my parking questions and cost less. Breakfast was good, with as much toast as you wanted, and the young woman serving it was lovely and always smiling. Great value in a good spot.

Keeping our bikes in the basement was really handy, and the owners were so friendly and helpful with everything we asked. The breakfast server even remembered how I like my tea. We had a fantastic stay, found it excellent value, and would happily return and recommend it.

I was working on the Isle of Man and stayed for two nights, right by the sea with the main promenade just outside. From the outside I expected something like a Blackpool hotel, but the room was a pleasant surprise: tidy and clean, with a comfortable bed. My window faced the hotel next door, which kept the sun out and the room cool. The power shower took me a minute to work out, then did the job well. I was too early for breakfast on the first morning. On the second, staff welcomed me and quickly showed me to a table. Service was great, though the food was fairly average and the coffee wasn't the best. It still set me up for the day, and I'd be happy to stay here again if I return to the Isle of Man.

The room was very clean and had a lovely sea view, though it was quite small and the bathroom was smaller than ones I've seen elsewhere. The place is rated 3 stars, but I think it deserves a bit better. It's by the seafront, roughly between the town centre and the electric trams, and we got a friendly welcome. It worked well for our four-night stay, but probably wouldn't suit a holiday. We thoroughly enjoyed it and would love to have room 12 again.
