Emerald Hotel

We had stopped by late at night just to drop off a friend staying at Emerald Hotel, Aizawl. One staff member abruptly asked if we were “visiting or not,” in a rude, unprofessional tone that made us feel like intruders. A little courtesy would have helped. The basement parking was another bad experience. When we were leaving, the guard looked annoyed about having to open the gate. Using the parking made us feel like a nuisance. Honestly, this was one of the worst hospitality experiences I’ve had. The staff were unwelcoming and disrespectful. I’d strongly suggest choosing somewhere visitors and guests are treated with basic respect.

A guy got stuck in the lift for 30 minutes before the staff managed to do anything. We also asked for plates and never got them, and the hot and cold water pipes seemed reversed. On Sunday, we asked about dinner and were told to wait until 8pm to order. After 8, they said there was no dinner and told us to order online. It was a close call getting food that day. The reception guy, just the one guy, was arrogant and inhospitable, and the service was poor. It made for a bad stay. This was our only bad experience on the whole Mizoram trip, since everyone else we met was sweet and hospitable. I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone.

Room service was bad: we ordered one thing and got something else. There were staff shortages, the food quality wasn’t good, and the breakfast buffet ran short on food. They added charges for things like a water bottle and extra bed at billing. We had trouble with room keys, cleaning wasn’t done when requested, and the room was provided late. From check-in to check-out it was a terrible experience. I won’t visit this hotel again.

Our five-night stay meant changing rooms twice. The hot water didn’t work in one room, and in the next, the toilet leaked so badly that the whole bathroom flooded. Breakfast was cold every time, even after I told them about it over and over. The towels were dirty, and the blankets were torn and unwashed. The location in Aizawl is good, but everything else was awful: rooms, hot water, breakfast, room service, staff, and cleanliness. They wouldn’t own up to mistakes, only saying they’d look into them. Please don’t stay here in such a beautiful city. These people are ruining the experience.
