Liberty Park

It’s in a lively, lovely commercial and residential area, with a Saravana Bhavan nearby. When we went for coffee in the late afternoon, though, the wait there was long. This hotel was popular maybe three decades ago, when a tariff of 800 rupees felt prestigious. They should’ve held on to its charm over the years.

The complimentary breakfast was phenomenal, and the service was excellent. We stayed almost two weeks, found the price fine, and had a very pleasant experience. Coming from the US, I was skeptical at first, but the hotel surprised us. Two things to watch: the internet is very slow, and there are mosquitoes. I’d suggest bringing an “off” type of product.

The room was neat, the staff courteous, the food good, and the parking facility was good too. The one downside is the complimentary breakfast. They keep saying the restaurant is under renovation, so it’s served in a tiny basement room where there isn’t even room to stand.

We got a pretty good discount, so it felt like value for money. The room and toilet were clean, the TV subscription actually worked, and the adjacent restaurant served nice food. One thing spoiled an otherwise enjoyable stay: the woman handling room service calls hung up on me twice instead of trying to understand my plain English. I’m not sure whether she was incompetent, inefficient, rude, or some combination. The floor manager dealt with it promptly and apologized profusely, but it still left a sour taste.
