Oak View Guest House

I booked this thinking it was Hotel Oak Valley, but those are completely different places, so check carefully before reserving. This is more like a guest house, with an old building that needs renovation and no basic facilities. Getting there is difficult, behind German bakery road. It's cheap, but there are better nearby options, so I'd avoid it.

For an offseason budget trip, this worked well. The room was roomy with a balcony, and both the bedroom and washroom were clean. Staff were very helpful, hot water and free wifi were available, and nearby roads, trails and transport made getting around straightforward. Cafes, bhagsu market, a Taxi/Auto stand and general stores are close by.

We only stayed one night because terrible road conditions after devastating rains and landslides delayed us. Even so, the hospitality was thoughtful and really good. The food was very tasty, and room service was prompt too. Mcleodganj, formerly Upper Dharamshala, is a cozy area and a popular place for the Dalai Lama, the 14th incarnation, as well as the winter capital of Himachal Pradesh.

We spent our evenings chatting, singing and dancing in the common area after sightseeing, and that made the trip feel special. We wanted a room with a balcony, but none was free when we first asked. SANJU BHAI, who runs the hotel, told us to look elsewhere and come back if we couldn't find one. We did, and Mr. sanju then gave us a room. His kindness made our stay at Hotel Oak View so enjoyable. We highly recommend it to anyone going to McLeod ganj, and plan to come back every year. Thank you.
