I’d prepaid online for three rooms, but when I arrived the hotel said prepaid bookings weren’t accepted and demanded extra money. OYO told me the property had already marked us as checked in, though we never checked in. We ended up booking somewhere else. A terrible experience.

Booking through OYO was useless for me, and I was turned away. The owner had changed in October 2023, and the booking money was going to the previous owner. The current owner then wanted another 50% on top of what I’d paid online to OYO, which seemed to have disappeared. The location is also on the other side of the road from the one listed, with a steep ten-minute walk downhill. My biggest regret in recent times. Be careful.

At first the hotel seemed reasonable. On our first day the room was clean, though nothing fancy. But when we returned from touring North Sikkim, there was no room for us. Eventually they put us in a room where, in the staff’s words, “family se kuch ladies beithi thi iss room me.” The sheets looked used and the bathroom was dirty. When we asked them to fix it, they accused us of threatening them. The manager came in drunk, with red eyes, started a fight, and cursed at the owner when we asked why the room wasn’t ready at 10pm. We somehow got hold of the owner, who apologized. The room was cleaned the next day while we were touring East Sikkim, but the whole incident put a damper on our mood. Another group had booked ahead and arrived to find no room for them either. The manager refused to refund them, and there was a loud, angry argument. It always seemed noisy because none of the customers were happy. They clearly overbook and poach people from tours and travels. The owner needs to change the staff and take more responsibility.

The terrace had an awesome view, and the hotel is close to the market and taxi stand. It was my first visit to Gangtok, and I booked this hotel. Service was available at all times and the food was good. I’d choose room no. 109 again next time.
