OYO 24858 The Hotel Kizomla

When my friend and I arrived after booking through YOYO, we found the hotel had been shut for a long time. It’s still accepting bookings, which I consider fraud. The hotel is closed. I’d recommend booking through booking.com, or reaching the destination in good time and finding a decent hotel or dormitory.

The staff were polite, and breakfast arrived right on time. We had problems with the TV and shower, but they fixed both when we asked. I don’t think the property has a dining area, and meals are delivered to your room. The one real drawback is the location, around 5-7 km from the city. That’s manageable if you have a vehicle arranged.

The restaurant supervisor was especially helpful and hospitable, including arranging a cab at short notice so we could board our train on time. The staff and general manager gave us a warm welcome when we arrived, and everyone was friendly. Without doubt, it was the best hotel I stayed at during my time in Sikkim.

We left a day early, on 10th June 2018 instead of our planned checkout on 11th June. It was the worst hotel stay of my life. The room smelled awful, and seepage was visible on the ceiling. A glass tabletop in the kitchen broke in front of us, but they ignored several requests to replace it, which felt dangerous with small children around. The hot food pot was just for show, and there was no guarantee the Wi-Fi would work even for an hour. Only one boy was serving in the kitchen, so requests took at least 15 minutes. When we ordered soup and asked for 2/3, it came in two bowls, with the third serving in a steel bowl because they said they only had two bowls. Food choices were very limited. Breakfast was just bread and butter, eggs, or alu parantha. For vegetables, they only made potato, saying it was readily available. One night we asked the Nepali cook, who seemed like a good cook, to make vindi sabji. He had to follow management's instructions, and the manager said it wasn't available anywhere in Gangtok. I believed him then, but after checking out I heard it was available, just a bit costly, so they didn't want to spend extra to cook it. There were many other problems too. I gave one star only because the site required a rating to save this message. I feel they rely on the hotel's location, since there isn't another restaurant nearby that meets even a minimum standard. You have to take a taxi to Mall road for a decent restaurant, so at night guests have little choice but to eat at their restaurant. God Bless Them.
