Sinclairs Retreat Kalimpong

The resort is beautiful, with well-kept, nicely decorated rooms, flowers, tall trees, birdsong and mountain views. Unfortunately, during my March 2026 stay, large corporate groups had rented the place. Their crowds filled the restaurant, they held team-building activities on the lawn and played loud sound systems in the conference rooms. The space was generally packed, spoiling the calm atmosphere other guests had paid a hefty room price to enjoy. Sinclairs should either stop allowing corporate team-building at its hotels or avoid taking regular guest bookings during those times. This was the only reason I couldn’t give Sinclairs five stars.

The grounds are large, with a nice kids’ play area and billiards, and it’s a good choice for people looking for peace. Staff service is excellent, and the rooms are good value for the price. The downsides are the distance from Kalimpong town, which means you need your own car or a rental available around the clock, and the food. It tastes very bad, although the prices are reasonable for a four-star hotel, with an extra 10% discount on food.

The staff are welcoming and always smiling, and Arpita at the restaurant was especially helpful. There’s live music in the restaurant, and birds sing throughout the day among the extensive, well-maintained grounds. Being a little outside the city makes it a lovely place to relax, while the market is only a 10-minute drive away. The rooms could use a little renovation, just a little.

The food was a highlight, fresh and tasty with a good range of choices, and room service was quick and efficient. Suraj form house keeping was very helpful. My room was clean, spacious and well maintained, with the necessary amenities and a comfortable bed. I appreciated the focus on hygiene. Staff were polite, professional and helpful throughout, and check-in was easy. It was a comfortable, relaxing stay, and I’d recommend the hotel and look forward to returning.
