The Bangala

There’s plenty of parking for a large gathering, and the spacious dining area was well kept, so guests could eat without too much crowding. The hall looks luxurious, with modern interiors and good lighting that give events an elegant feel. The air-conditioning worked well, and the seating could comfortably fit a large number of guests.

There isn’t much to do outside, which makes it easy to enjoy the property itself. It’s a lovely place, tastefully decorated, with excellent amenities in the rooms. We had delicious, authentic Chettinad food, and the service was excellent. A nice getaway for a couple of nights.

The food was a letdown: the Chettinad dishes were bland and uninspired, choices were limited, and what we got tasted as if it had been sitting out. Service was slow, and the staff seemed uninterested. At ₹1650 for two, the steep rates and hidden charges felt like poor value, with little to justify the price. Bangala Resorts in Karaikudi has potential because of its location, but the subpar service makes it feel overpriced for what you get. I'd skip it; there are better options in Karaikudi.

The linen in our room was excellent, and the Athamgudi tiles and blooming multicoloured bougainvillea added to the heritage feel. Our first-floor room overlooking the small pool had a nice view, and the common verandah seating was pleasant. The Bangala appears to cater more to non-Indian guests. It's an old structure expanded with newer rooms and amenities, but this small, 33-room hotel positions itself as a premium stay at Rs 12,000/night for double occupancy. We found it poorly managed, with staff processes not in place. Even getting bed tea was a slightly complex process. For that price, I expected much better management and service. The place is right on a busy highway within town, so it's noisy, and the toiletries were extremely basic, with no basic moisturisers or conditioners.
