I didn't stay and booked somewhere else because I wouldn't have felt safe after the host's reaction. He'd been pleasant until I asked where the pool was, since the description mentioned sun loungers or beach chairs. Then he shouted and became abusive, saying he wouldn't host any more Scottish or British people because we expect too much. I only expected what the listing described. He went on ranting that he was a born again Christian and wouldn't cheat anyone. I hadn't accused him of cheating; I was just trying to find the pool, which didn't exist. He was the only unpleasant person I met in 30 days in India. I found him completely obnoxious and a disgrace to his industry and country. I see that the pool reference has since been removed, but the description still gives me the impression there's a wellness centre on site and a private beach area.

We reached fort Kochi late at night after trouble with a nearby booking, where we got scammed at a place called ‘Flamingo’: beware! We desperately needed somewhere else, so we knocked at Leelu Homestay and Roy immediately helped us. He arranged things and took us in on the spot, treating us like his own kids. We've never felt so personally welcomed at a homestay or hotel. The place is spotless and has such a warm, kind feel. We started calling him uncle Roy, and he's a gem, always ready to help or crack a joke. He even made us breakfast before a trip at no charge, arranged ubers and tuktuks at a lower rate, and found us another homestay at our next destination even though booking.com showed it as sold out. Roy is clearly well known and respected in fort kochi, and knows his way around. An incredible experience, and a must-book in Kochi.

We had a great stay at Leelu Homestay, with a delicious breakfast and something different each day. Mr Roy helped us get ready for a wedding we'd been invited to, arranged a trip outside the city, and patiently told us about the local food, culture, and history. Thank you, Uncle Roy.

Roy made our stay magical, and I'm not sure how we would have managed without him. He arranged tuk tuks, taxis, airport pickup, and excursions, and was a superb, endlessly helpful host. Breakfast was wonderful, and Roy shared great stories from his time as a Ships Captain. Thank you for everything in Kerela.
