Anshika Inn by Goroomgo

I paid around 1800 Rs per day for my first stay at a fab hotel in Newtown Kolkata, and I wouldn't suggest anyone stay here. My room hadn't been sanitized; the manager said the sanitizing machine was at another hotel. When I asked staff at that other hotel about sanitizing, they were rude and said their hotel was like this and nothing could be done. As a doctor, I was astonished by the manager's lackadaisical attitude. The room was uncleaned and had cobwebs, and the linens were dirty and smelly. I have photos. They only changed the linens after I called repeatedly. Breakfast arrived at 11:30 am, and the next day they served it without tea. There was no kitchen, but a sign said outside food wasn't allowed. There's no sign outside to help you find the hotel, and the manager seemed helpless and poor at managing the place. I wouldn't recommend it, especially to people who've stayed at fab hotels before.

There were very few staff, so service was slow, and the food and service made for a bad experience. I was served burnt food. When I called the manager, he admitted one of the hotel staff had cooked it because the chef wasn't available. They took the food back and later offered a dish made by the chef. For a three-hour extended stay, they charged me the full hotel amount for one room and half the amount for the other two rooms. Overall, a bad experience.

The location was okay, considering construction was going on, but the property was poorly maintained. The room was shabby, the linen was bad, and the washroom wasn't fit to use. Service was pathetic, and this was the first hotel where I was told water wasn't provided. The food was bad, please don't order. Not an ideal place to visit, below average overall.

When we arrived as a family, they said they had no rooms there and were sending us somewhere else. Managing that with all our luggage was hard, but we went along expecting a comfortable stay. The other place wasn't fit even for one night. The room was tiny and shabby, with almost no space to walk, faulty lights, and stained, filthy bedsheets that made me feel sick. The washroom was even worse. We had to move again in the middle of the night with an older family member. We didn't know where to go, but luckily found another hotel, which cost us double. They didn't return our advance booking money either. It was a sickening, extremely disappointing experience. I wouldn't book fab hotels again.
