Goldfield Club & Lake Resort, Kumarakom

The only thing I really remember fondly is the view over the mighty vembenad lake and its sunset. The rooms were spacious, but that was about it. The suite furniture was old, lights rusty, and there was no wifi or telephone. The pool was average, unclean, and poorly maintained. The property itself was in bad shape, despite the hefty price. We stayed with family and kids, arriving at 3 PM even though check-in was 1 PM. We then waited an hour at reception. It seemed they only started cleaning after we arrived, while a few staff rushed around sorting things out. There was little concern for guest satisfaction. I'd read mostly negative reviews but hoped things would be at least moderate, and I was very wrong. Breakfast was average but decent. We skipped other restaurant food because the staff responses didn't give us much confidence. I wouldn't recommend this place in Kumarakom. Consider it only if you're expecting a below-average, moderate budget stay and aren't travelling with kids. There are plenty of other properties to explore.

The lake view at the back was lovely, and watching boats go by felt calm and peaceful. Parking for cars and bikes was available, which was convenient. Our pre-booked room was clean, nice, and comfortable. Breakfast was included, and it was decent, though nothing special. Hot water wasn't available during our stay, and the pool looked like it hadn't been cleaned recently and wasn't well maintained. It was a relaxing stay overall, but the maintenance needs work.

We were a group of 5 girls and felt uncomfortable with only Hindi-speaking male staff available, as there was no Malayali staff to communicate with. At the end, despite having paid a high rent, we were asked for extra charges without any valid reason. That felt unprofessional. The property was extremely dirty and poorly maintained. The pool was unhygienic and unusable, and our room wasn't properly cleaned or anything like the online photos. The experience fell far below expectations, and we wouldn't recommend this misleading, unprofessional place.

Goldfield Club & Lake Resort, Kumarakom is in a lovely, peaceful spot by the backwaters, just right for relaxing. Our room was clean and comfortable, and the staff were warm, polite, and always willing to help. We had a wonderful stay and would recommend it. I'd love to visit again 😍
