OYO 26686 Coorg Maharaja Resort

We stayed for two nights and three days. The room was spacious, with a good dressing table, a comfortable bed, AC, TV, closet, and a roomy bathroom with hot water available 24/7. I couldn't figure out how to turn on the TV despite trying several times, which was frustrating. Two half-liter water bottles were provided at check-in, but none on the following days. At other hotels I've stayed in, water was provided daily, so I expected that here too. The pool was maintained daily and looked nice, and there was a play area for kids. The room itself was mostly fine, but the bathroom needed attention: the drain area was open, the mirror wasn't clean, and the tube lights were broken. Being next to a storeroom also made the bathroom feel uncomfortable. The Airtel Wi-Fi could be faster. Breakfast starts at 8:30 a.m. and is included. Usually it was tasty and good, but on the morning of the 31st we waited over 45 minutes for the bread omelette and bisibellabath we ordered. I'm diabetic and need breakfast by 7:30, and with checkout at 8:30 that last morning, the timing was difficult. My wife loved the coffee at the restaurant, and we'd probably come back for it. Dosa batter also wasn't available every day, which made it hard for me to get dosa. The DJ and campfire might be nice when everyone is enjoying them, but nobody was at the campfire during the first two nights. The DJ was still so loud that we had to shout to talk in our room, and the sound could be turned down a little. I switched off the light in front of room 209 each night, but someone kept coming to switch it back on. Between that and the loud music, my sleep was disturbed. A few suggestions: finish the bathroom drainage properly, check mirrors and broken lights during regular room maintenance, consider an earlier breakfast option for diabetic guests, and place guests who want to avoid the DJ in rooms farther from the sound. Having dosa batter available would help guests like me, though that's optional.

The staff made us feel welcome and comfortable throughout our stay. There was plenty for everyone to enjoy, including the pool, play area, campfire options, and rain dance area. A superb stay for a family or a group of friends. Highly recommended.

We paid ₹5500 per room, but the room and service quality were extremely poor. Traveling with children, we found the play area full of broken items, apparently just left there for show. The advertised zip-line wasn't working either. There was a power cut for over an hour in the morning, with no backup, and reception didn't respond when we called. Even tea and snacks cost extra. Dinner was awful: plain rice, rasam, one fried rice, and chicken, with no dal, sambar, biryani, or real variety. What we got tasted horrible. It was a very disappointing stay. What Maharaja Resort shows and what it delivers are completely different, so families should think twice before booking.

We arrived at 8 p.m. after traveling all that way and were left without a room or even somewhere to have dinner. They'd confirmed our booking at 3 p.m. with a video of the room, and we'd paid in full beforehand, but then they refused to give us the room with flimsy excuses. The owner and staff didn't respond and just carried on as if they had no commitment to us. Seriously disappointing. Be very careful before booking here.
