Keerong Cottages

The service and food brought my rating down to about 2.5 stars. The notices around the property promised certain timings, but staff didn’t stick to them. We were told tea would come at 5 pm, but it never arrived. Mr. Bhupen was the one person who was kind, polite, and attentive; the others were rude or ignored us. Dinner on the first night came so late that guests felt awkward scrambling for each roti, then waiting again for the next two. The vegetarian meal was okay, not especially good. The second night I ate chicken and got food poisoning, possibly from the chicken or the poor quality mayonnaise in the salad, so I’d avoid both. Food choices are limited in small Lachung, so you may need to eat at the hotel, but be careful what and how much you take from the buffet. We booked an Orchid premium room and went as a family with two kids. There are Orchid and Primrose categories, each with deluxe rooms on the ground floor without balconies, and premium rooms upstairs with balconies and great views. The property feels like a nice place for families, with a route through farm fields, a pond with fish like in the photos, and an outdoor sitting area where you can have a bonfire for a small fee. Our room was decent, clean, and big enough for two adults and two kids. The bathroom wasn’t as nice as the pictures, more old fashioned with patchwork, but it was okay. The balcony view is the best thing about the location and gave us goosebumps. We’d only recommend staying if you can’t find something better in the same budget, especially since this hotel was a bit costly.

There were fewer staff than I expected, but the people there were polite and helped whenever we had a problem. I also liked the calm dogs they keep on the property. We were there from 24-25 November, and it was very cold. The scenery was beautiful, the eating area was nicely built, and they had warm extra blankets when the bed covers felt cold. I’d never come across a bed warmer at any hotel on my trip through Sikkim and west Bengal.

People come to Sikkim and Lachung to stay peacefully, enjoy different cultures, and experience clean water and air, and we get that here too. Some guests seem to think paying means they should get every facility just like in a five star hotel. They may not understand how the staff manage with shortages and the temperatures in this remote place. There are generators for power, though they can’t run all the time. Do you really need electricity 24 hours a day? Enjoy your holiday. Life here is like this, and that can become a memory too. If visiting Sikkim, especially lachung, leaves you unsatisfied, go to Delhi-Up for clean air, water and all that. Anyway, enjoy your holiday, everyone reading this. A reasonably priced, decent place, with a lovely stay and a beautiful view. The staff were friendly and helpful. There’s a very cute pet dog on the property. All rooms have bed insulators, and heaters are available for an extra charge.
