The Khawachan House

It’s easy to find, and the location is convenient for the airport without being in the flight path. The quiet setting was a good place to rest and acclimate to the altitude. The property feels fairly new, with fresh, clean rooms that are spacious and comfortable. Staff were kind and helpful, and the hostess in the restaurant was gracious and made sure we were looked after. The food was homely, healthy, and really good.

The owner was friendly and obliging, and the staff were hospitable and cooperative. We had four kids with us, and they loved being pampered. The place is well kept, clean, and has good amenities, and we enjoyed the food too. It was a very comfortable stay. We would have stayed longer if rooms had been available.

The food was tasty, and the staff were very helpful. They also had a medical kit ready for hypoxia. The place was decent and clean, though it needs more ventilation and a few upgrades, including power backup. Still, we had a good experience.

Khawachan gave me a warm, safe place to stay while my mother was in hospital with altitude sickness. I needed that comfort during a difficult time, and the room and bathroom were clean and well kept. Zhiwa was lovely to talk with, and I really enjoyed the simple home-cooked food. Seeing her little nephew and other family members around, including the child playing soccer outside, added to the welcoming feel. It’s simple and genuine, a welcome change from the pretentious hotels tourists often get used to. If I return to Leh, I’d consider staying here again.
