Lake View Hotel

Most of the time the lift wasn't working, so whenever we needed room service we had to go down to the ground floor. We couldn't call reception from the room because the phone didn't work either. The receptionist, Velmurugan, was extremely rude, and when we complained about the hospitality, we were dismissed with a claim that they understand it better. His attitude was indifferent, and he said that's simply how they operate. Very poor service and a deeply disappointing experience.

We spent most of our two nights out in Madurai for a wedding, so this could work as an affordable place to stop for a short visit if you're mostly going to be elsewhere. The location is accessible, rooms are very spacious, bathrooms were clean, and the housekeeping staff were polite and helpful. They provided basic toiletries, a dental kit, soap and shampoo, plus a large mirror and hot water in the bathroom. There's no electric kettle, but reception will give you hot drinking water if you ask. They also arranged a late checkout in the evening for a reasonable extra charge. Still, I won't stay here again. The floor was unusually slippery, and even slightly damp feet could make you skate and fall. I'm not sure whether it was the floor cleaner, but this needs serious attention, especially for senior family members. We heard conflicting information from reception about whether the lift had backup power during an outage, so we didn't use it. Most electrical points didn't work, the intercom was dead, and the bathroom fittings were loose or broken. The AC in one room didn't work. There's no restaurant or room service, though Gowri Parvathy Bhavan is just 50 meters away. There were mosquitoes, but Goodnight liquid was provided. Better fumigation and hygiene are needed. During the rain, a lot of water came through the windows into the room. Overall maintenance needs attention. It's an average budget hotel, and even the low rate didn't feel quite worthwhile.

I'm worried I may have brought cockroach eggs home in my luggage. The place had no real hygiene, and for the price they ask, it felt like a complete scam. They charge as though they're offering comfort, but the room came with spiders, cockroaches, and mosquitoes as roommates. I regret staying at Hotel Lake View and would tell others to stay far away. Cockroaches of all sizes crawled around the room, making it feel completely unsafe for kids. The bathroom was a nightmare too: there was a big hole in the door, the ventilator was basically a pigeon nest, and the smell from the droppings was unbearable. The main door lock was half broken, so I worried about safety the whole time. This was by far the worst hotel experience I've had, and I travel at least three times a year. Please read this carefully before booking.

For this budget and location, I haven't found a more satisfactory option, though I've stayed in plenty of hotels. The room was clean and comfortable, room service worked properly, and the receptionist was friendly. They let us check in and out within a 24-hour period, but if you need that arrangement, it's best to book by calling them instead of using an online platform. There was a good view of the lake outside from my room, along with a two-seater sofa, a teapoy, a wall-mounted table, and a chair. It also had a good make-up shelf and a large glass for getting ready. The bathrooms were clean and tidy. Soap and towels were provided as usual, and hot water was available 24 hours a day. Nothing stood out as a problem, and it felt worth the money. The hotel can park about six cars inside at most, and others can park outside.
