Swevens Hotel

The rooms were tidy and clean, and the stay had a great vibe. Service was nice, and we got complimentary breakfast, though it wasn't up to the mark. It did fill us up, at least. The place is still under construction, so don't expect too much yet. It's worth paying for the rooms, but the property is far outside the city, with very few shops nearby. Swiggy and Zomato helped. A good experience, though it could be better.

The checkout was hassle-free, and I think I'd stay here again if I visit Mangalore. The location is near Jyoti theatre, where there are lots of things happening, and almost every bus from the hotel goes there. The rooms are quite big, with great furniture and bathroom fixtures, and there's good power backup, though it kicked in often. Reception was okay. Miss breakfast before 10 am and you won't get the complimentary meal. Early check-in is possible for about 300 bucks, and they're good about it. Maybe because I checked in early, the room wasn't especially clean: everything was arranged, but the floor was dusty and the toilet hadn't been cleaned properly. The hotel looks modestly posh, though cleanliness and service could use work. Still, it was a decent stay.

Make My Trip fixed the booking problem within an hour, but it took two hours in all before we finally got a room. We'd booked one room with my group of friends, then were told we had to take an extra one because of a new rule that wasn't in the policy or updated in the Make My Trip app. Staff were patient enough while we tried to convince them, but they weren't helpful. The place was easy to find, though construction was still going on. Our room was on the third floor, probably with no lift because the building was unfinished. It looked good at first, but didn't seem maintained: the beds weren't clean and the floors were a bit muddy. The washroom was clean. Hot water was available only if we asked staff for it. I hope they maintain the place once construction is complete, because it's nice. They should add a local TV setup, since Tata Sky had no channels. I didn't check the Wi-Fi or try the complimentary breakfast, so no comment on those. I guess wheelchair access will be possible once the life is fine.

I wouldn't recommend this for a leisure trip. If you're on business and spend most of your time out, you could consider it. The place is affordable, but still under construction and has no lift. We first got a spacious room on the third floor, then were moved to a ground-floor room half the size with no discount. One person handles both room service and reception, and with so many guests we had trouble reaching him. Free breakfast is served in the morning, but the taste is average. They provide water and nothing else, so you'll need to order food through delivery apps.
