We felt so peaceful and spoilt over Christmas. The view over the rice paddies is beautiful, and the place is quiet, away from the city rush. There was lots of wildlife: we went birdwatching and saw fruit bats and mongoose too. My partner and I stayed five nights in a big double room with AC and a hot water shower, basic but lovely. George and his wife Di are the nicest, most welcoming people we met in Kerala. We had breakfast, lunch, and dinner with them most days, and the home-cooked food was amazing, with huge portions. George waited on us like royalty and was so helpful arranging taxis, tuk tuks, ferries, bicycles, and trains so we could explore and continue our journey. Honestly, THE BEST PLACE near the backwaters. Thank you for the wonderful hospitality, G & D.

George and Dai were generous, loving hosts who looked after my mom and me like family and introduced us to the quiet canal neighborhood. The area feels authentic and peaceful, a must-see near Kottayam if you want to see how many Keralans live. This is a true backwater stay, far enough from the tourist chaos that there are no tourists around you, yet close enough to make the next travel stop easy. Thank you, George and Dai, for taking such good care of us.

The food was great, and most of it came from their own garden. Di even showed me how to make one of the meals 😁 We only stayed two nights and wished we had longer. George also helped us arrange an inexpensive boat trip through the backwaters using local transport. He and Di are such kind hosts.

I spent three days at George's homestay at the end of January and loved it. The area is beautiful and away from the crowds, and George gave us lots of ideas for hikes nearby. His cooking was amazing too. If you're visiting this part of Kerala, don't miss the place.
