Hotel New Bengal

This is one of the better budget hotels near CST, right in front of Haj House. It’s centrally located, which is convenient for anyone working in the Fort areas, and there’s a restaurant where you can order food as needed. The food is very good and arrives quickly. Rooms are small but neat and clean, and the washrooms are very small too, though they have all the amenities. Hot water is available 24 by 7.

People often choose this hotel for its location, but the management hardly seems to put anything back into maintenance, and the condition shows. Rooms without balconies are bad, while even the balcony rooms aren't maintained well. The washrooms in particular are well below standard. Reception staff are very poor in their behavior and adamant. All in all, it's a poor hotel.

The staff were nice, and the restaurant next door was great. The hotel is within walking distance of attractions. But I felt uncomfortable and dirty there because nothing seemed hygienic at all, and I wouldn't recommend staying. It was dark, rundown, and smelled strongly of damp and mould, like a health hazard or a horror movie. The corridors were dirty, with open walls and exposed wires and metal. The small rooms had no outside windows for fresh air. The bedding smelled like a dirty motor, and the pillows were brown and mouldy. There had been no room maintenance: the walls were brown, stained, and peeling. The bathroom had no ventilation, was mouldy, and smelled awful. The booking and Google pictures were edited and nothing like the actual place.

Check everything before booking here. The pictures don't show the reality. The rooms were terribly dirty and smelly, and the mattress and sheets smelled so bad I wondered if they'd gone years without washing. The bathroom was in the same horrible state, beyond what I can describe. I asked the staff to clean my room three or four times, but they seemed uninterested and wouldn't even answer properly. It was a terrible experience.
