Hotel Regal Palace

We were left looking for a room late at night in Mumbai, with nowhere nearby available. The staff offered no explanation or help, and some guests had paid the hotel but still weren't given rooms. It felt like confirmed bookings were being ignored while rooms were sold at higher rates during the Lollapalooza rush, though the hotel didn't explain what had happened. Booking.com had confirmed our reservation at Regal Palace, Grant Road, Mumbai, and told us check-in would be available after 12 PM, so we planned around that. When we arrived at about 9 PM, they refused to check us in. The staff were indifferent and unprofessional, and there was no effort to sort things out. This caused a lot of stress and financial loss, and felt like misleading customers during peak demand. I strongly advise avoiding this hotel. A confirmed booking here seems to mean nothing.

The hotel is conveniently located near Marine Drive and nearby markets, and its outside area is very good. I stayed with my family and booked two executive rooms on the second floor. They were a comfortable size for two people, though the windows were quite small. The AC and fan worked properly. The inside manual lock didn't work, but the automatic lock was fine. We got water bottles on the first day, but not the next. Snacks were served the following day in the third-floor banquet area until midnight. I ordered from the room menu: the chicken fry masala was tasty, while the fries were average. I checked out at 11 AM and left my luggage in the hotel storeroom. I picked it up around 9 PM that day without any trouble. I had a good experience overall.

The breakfast was awful, and we couldn't eat any of the meals despite paying for two days. The puri was cold, the potatoes were dry, the idli came without sambar, and the bananas were overripe. We even found a cockroach on the puri boxes, and the supervisor defended it. I'd skip breakfast entirely. We booked two nights online because the hotel was near Marine Drive, which was the one good thing about it. The room stank of mold and was tiny. MakeMyTrip had listed a fridge and minibar, but neither was there. We also ordered lunch from the restaurant menu, and the staff made a huge fuss over a simple order. I have pictures of the room. Just a heads-up.

Booking through MakeMyTrip meant we had to leave at 11 AM, while guests who booked directly could check out at noon. That difference felt unfair to online guests. Check-in was slow too, with an unnecessary wait for the room, and the hot water came very slowly and inconsistently. The service didn't meet expectations. The hotel should offer the same facilities and policies to everyone, whatever booking method they use.
