Hotel Kumkum

A couple of things were missing: no dental kit or shampoo, and no electric kettle for tea or coffee. Otherwise, it's a good budget option. The metro is only 150m away, and many South Mumbai sights are about 15 minutes from the hotel. Service and cleaning were great, with fresh towels and sheets every day during our four nights. The staff were friendly, and the hotel felt very safe.

We found the area fine for getting around by taxi, and the hotel felt safe. The staff and reception were welcoming and kind. Our bed was comfortable, and the room was clean when we arrived, though nothing special. But it wasn't cleaned during our three-day stay, even though we were told daily cleaning was provided. They missed one day while we were out, and on another day we asked for cleaning in 10 minutes, but it still hadn't been done when we came back. Breakfast was described as included, but it was only one coupon for a drink and a snack, with extra payment for more. We're a couple visiting from Spain for tourism. If your budget allows, we'd suggest another hotel despite the nice staff and safe feel.

One thing to know: smoking isn't allowed in the room or anywhere on the premises, and smoke alarms are everywhere. I spent a couple of days at Hotel Kumkum and it was better than I'd expected. The room was clean, the room service was good, and there's a cafeteria on the top floor. A good choice if you're visiting Sobo for work or travel.

I'm saying this as a solo traveller: for a 2 star hotel, the experience was amazing. The rooms were clean and well maintained, and the staff were so, so friendly, welcoming, and helpful. I'd recommend it to anyone coming to Mumbai.
