The staff were friendly, polite, and helpful, and the food was reasonably priced with generous portions. The dosa, idli, and aloo paratha were good, though the poha and some North Indian dishes could taste better. The setting is the biggest draw: the property has direct access to Karnataka Siri Horticulture Garden, is close to Ooty Lake, and sits among lots of greenery and forest. All the rooms look onto the garden, and we spotted an Indian bison (Gaur) near the gates early one morning. It was a lovely, unusual sight. Our premium room was spacious, with a smaller extra room and an extra bed, but the interiors felt dated. The sheets and cushions seemed dusty and a little stained. On the second day of our two-night stay, there was no water refill or fresh towels. There's no fan, though the cold weather made that manageable. The washroom was clean and had hot water, but its door was so low that we bumped our heads twice and had to bend to get through. It was a decent stay thanks to the peaceful, green location, though better upkeep and cleanliness would make a real difference.

I spent three days at Hotel Mayura Sudarshana during my Ooty visit and found the rooms clean and neat, with very affordable rates. The restaurant was another plus, serving delicious food at reasonable prices. The view of the Horticultural Garden, which I think is currently Ooty's most beautiful garden, was a treat each morning. The staff were consistently polite, helpful, and ready to assist. I'd recommend it to anyone visiting Ooty.

The garden outside Hotel Mayura Sudarshan is spread across acres, and stepping out of the room puts you right among the natural scenery. The viewpoint is excellent, with sunrise and sunset especially lovely to watch. I visited Ooty with my family in the second week of December and booked a wooden cottage. The property was clean and well maintained. We enjoyed tasty, good quality food at the restaurant beside the rooms, and the staff were warm and professional. The manager, receptionist, and room boys were all polite and helpful. The pleasant atmosphere made our Ooty trip even more enjoyable.

We were repeatedly given wrong information by staff, and basic requests weren't followed through. The rooms were in terrible condition, with drafts, uneven floors, and little sign of upkeep. The building is 148 years old, and that age shows badly. This is a dilapidated property that's poorly maintained and wildly overpriced for such a sub-par stay. Save your money and stay somewhere else.
