Shivv's heritage inn

The staff were so friendly, and the food was great. We loved the scenic views, quiet atmosphere, and cozy room at this beautiful resort. A lovely little break, and one we'll remember.

We arrived at 6.30pm after a 6 hour journey and were told there was no booking. We showed our Voye Homes reservation, full payment, and WhatsApp chat history. To his credit, the host contacted the agents, who eventually confirmed it, but he was concerned about getting paid. It took over an hour before we got a room. The check-in formality included copies of our visa and passport, as usual, but then he insisted on taking our photos and said this was a new regulation. No other hotel seemed to know about that. We were exhausted and felt unwelcome, so reluctantly agreed. The room was very spacious, the one good thing about it, but damp and musty, freezing cold, and there was no heating or toilet roll. We got through the night, then Voye confirmed the booking was valid and the owners had been informed. We were so disappointed that we booked elsewhere for the remaining 2 nights, which was the best decision. Breakfast was nice, with idli, poori, and sambhar, though they don't provide milk, so it was black tea or coffee. The location is decent and the rooms are spacious, but the room we got wasn't pleasant. If Voye Homes hadn't confirmed our booking, we would have paid directly for that one night anyway.

Maan Singh looked after our family of 3 adults and 2 kids for both days, and took care of every little request. He really understood what travelling with kids is like. Hari, the other manager, was friendly and easy to reach, and breakfast arrived on time and tasted great. Shivv's is an old bungalow, apparently 175 years old, with a vintage feel, right in the middle of Ooty city. It's been updated with modern amenities for guests. We loved our two day stay and would recommend it to families.

The location is peaceful and close to the market, which was the bright spot. Service was very poor. Breakfast was just idli, with no variety, and felt homemade. They don't provide driver rooms or food. The app photos are misleading because the rooms are much smaller in person, and even after upgrading, it wasn't worth the price. There was no night caretaker or heater, and the approach road is very narrow.
