The location gives the property potential, but the lack of cleanliness and upkeep made our stay disappointing. The room smelled unpleasant, and the pillows and bedsheets were old, worn, and didn’t feel properly maintained. Cleanliness was a major concern throughout. The staff didn’t know basic information about the property and couldn’t answer questions accurately. Breakfast communication was poor, and they seemed unsure what options were available. After check-in, there was virtually no support. Requests weren’t handled proactively, and guests were left to manage on their own. The rooms may look cozy in photos, but that wasn’t our experience. For a property in Ooty, I expected better. I respectfully wouldn’t recommend it until housekeeping, staff training, and guest service improve significantly.

The outside setting is the main thing going for this place right now. The lawns look as shown in the pictures, and the owner and caretaker are soft-spoken and helpful, but you end up needing a lot of help just to make the stay comfortable. They say renovation is still ongoing, and I hope things improve. It’s an old building that’s been renovated, but the service and rooms have a lot of room for improvement. Our room was damp and cold, with no heater, and at 2 degrees at night it was uncomfortable. There were no light switches, so when I called the caretaker at night, he had to unscrew the bulbs so we could sleep. Breakfast was complimentary, but there weren’t good hotels or shops nearby, so you have to drive into town even for small things.

We really enjoyed our stay at Mowbray House by Voye Homes. The complimentary breakfast was good, though it could be better. The location and entire property were just right, and it looked as good as the pictures, maybe better. The rooms and washrooms were superbly clean.

I booked three suite rooms from 25 December to 27 December 2025. The heritage building and scenic views are appealing, but at this price the experience fell short of basic hospitality standards. The biggest issue was having no working kitchen. We had to rely on Swiggy or Zomato, with food taking 30-45 minutes, and the property couldn’t even provide tea or coffee. The small restaurant next door had very few options, took an excessive amount of time to prepare food, and the quality was extremely poor. There was a limited vegetarian breakfast. One suite we were given had a strong foul odor, damp conditions, and a broken toilet seat. After we checked in and complained, we were moved, though I’m not sure whether the new room was a Deluxe Room rather than the suite we’d booked. It was uncomfortable and unhygienic, and suggests poor maintenance and quality checks. There was no intercom in the rooms, and despite the cold weather, no heaters or hot water bags were provided. At ₹5,000 to ₹6,000 a night, the facilities were grossly inadequate and poor value. The staff were courteous, but seemed limited by a lack of resources. At checkout I asked for an invoice and was told a technical issue prevented it from being generated, and that they’d send it later by message. Despite multiple follow-ups with Voye Homes, I still haven’t received it. That was unacceptable and reflects poorly on their operations. The property is spacious and has heritage character and good views, but the limited amenities, poor room condition, and lack of food service make it unsuitable for families who need meals on site. It relies on its heritage appeal without delivering the comfort, hygiene, and service expected at this price. I can’t recommend it unless major improvements are made.
