White Villa

We took three bedrooms, the entire first floor, for two days. It was spacious and comfortable, and the well maintained villa felt homely. The owner was supportive, and there’s a nice little garden on the balcony with chairs to sit and relax. The beach and many good restaurants are within walking distance. Mosquitoes are a problem, though, and you can’t sleep if you leave the doors open. Apart from that, everything was top notch.

The smell from the large sewer canal in front of the property was hard to ignore. We also came back one evening to find no water in the taps, and had to remind the caretaker. In one of our two rooms, an AC began dripping onto the bed around midnight, which was a real inconvenience. We had told them in advance that we would arrive with our one-and-a-half-year-old baby, but were met with a swarm of mosquitoes. The repellent took hours to arrive and barely helped. Mesh on every door is badly needed. The caretaker was courteous and the room rates were reasonable, but basic guest comfort was neglected. I appreciated that repellent was eventually provided, but it should have been offered without us having to ask. The underlying mosquito problem needs to be addressed, and owners are responsible for taking practical steps to make guests comfortable and safe, even if the location itself is beyond their control. I gave an honest account of the cons so others can avoid the same problems. It would also be helpful if the owner shared the pros from their perspective. I hope these issues are fixed to improve the stay. I can't recommend this place as things stand.

Communication was very efficient, and the place was really nice to stay in. It had handy basics: tea, coffee and sugar, two towels, a boiler, fridge, AC, and hot showers around the clock.

The peaceful setting is a plus, and the location is really good for walking to the main attractions. I'm staying here now, though, and the upkeep has been average. There's no wardrobe, just a multipurpose rack, and the bathroom isn't in very good condition. It feels more like a rental apartment for offices than a vacation spot for tourists. There isn't the traditional French ambience, architecture, or decor. If you only need a small room and a bed, and don't mind missing the Pondicherry feel, it may suit you. A quiet environment is what it offers.
