At checkout, the receptionist was rude and arrogant instead of dealing with our complaints professionally. She even questioned us for raising them. It made an already awful stay worse. Shillong is beautiful, but this place completely spoiled it for us. We checked in around 9 PM, and the room looked nothing like the Agoda photos. It was dark, dirty, poorly maintained, and more like a rundown roadside lodge. A towel had visible blood stains, raising serious questions about whether the room and linens were cleaned properly. The washroom had no toiletries, very low water flow, and broken, unclean fittings. Many advertised amenities simply weren't there, and the listing felt misleading. HOTEL O SHILLONG (formerly Balaji Guest House) was one of the most disappointing and unhygienic places I've stayed. I strongly advise travellers not to spend their money here unless they're prepared for dirty rooms, poor service, and misleading promises. If the platform had a negative rating, I'd give it.

I told them clearly before booking through OYO that I'd arrive around midnight, and they agreed. But when I got to Hotel O Shillong formerly Balaji Guest House late that night, they refused to give me a room. Being in an unfamiliar hill station at that hour, I struggled to find somewhere else to stay, and the whole thing was stressful and disappointing. Be careful booking through OYO in Shillong and similar hill areas. Even with prior confirmation, a booking may not be honored properly. It's better to confirm directly with the property before travelling late at night.

The location worked well for a stay, and the rooms were clean. All the staff were so good in their behavior.
2/10
The staff were nice, but the room didn't match what was shown in the OYO app, which was really disappointing. It wasn't clean, the bedsheets were covered in stains, and the room felt a bit damp. I wouldn't recommend this hotel to anyone whose first priority is hygiene.

If you're paying around 1-1.5k, it can work for a tight budget. There's hot water, and the room and staff are average. Nothing special, just a basic cheap hotel that does the job.
