Lake View Inn

I stayed at Hotel Lake View Inn, Shillong, for three days in May 2026. The floor stayed wet the whole time, smelled unpleasant, and never seemed to dry properly. The room was very small and didn’t meet proper hygiene standards. Most rooms apparently don’t have windows, except for a few. We also weren’t given a room key. We were told only one key was available and the access card system wasn’t working properly. Since I’d booked in advance, cancellation wasn’t possible. Otherwise, I would have checked out on the first day.

I paid 2800 as the advance for one day at this property, but left within an hour and moved to another booking. I asked for part of the payment back, and the staff simply refused. The photos may look good, but the actual experience was worse than anything. The rooms are extremely small for the price. The place seems more suited to couples looking for a room by the hour, Oyo type, and I definitely wouldn’t recommend it for families. In my room, bed and washroom towels had hair, the geyser wasn’t working, and the washroom was dirty and unhygienic. Their executive room with windows, room 108 and supposedly the best at the property, felt like a pigeon nest.

The room, toilets, tables, and wardrobe were dirty, and the linen and towels were dirty and unhygienic too. When I asked for fresh towels, the housekeeping boy was reluctant. The staff were rude, unresponsive, and clueless. I asked why there was no hot water from the geyser, and was told, “Sir, switch on rakheye aajayega.” For INR 2500 with breakfast, this felt like a LODGE worth INR 500/-. Breakfast was just Puri Sabji or Toast & Egg, and the morning tea tasted like drain water. Ms. Pushp at the front desk was the exception. She showed us the room at check-in and seemed to know her work. The rest looked like headless chickens. This is the last place I’d recommend anyone stay.

The rooms were awful, not even one star. They were full of cigarette smell, and I wondered whether there was even a building at the location, since the hotel seemed to be underground. I visited on Nov 4th and also had a booking for 7th nov, but I want to book another hotel for then. It’s very smelly and not recommended for families.
