Neemrana's Glasshouse on The Ganges

I’d put this among my five favorite places. The natural path down to the Ganga is a lovely bonus, and from the property you can hear the river flowing all the time. It’s around a half-hour drive from Rishikesh, yet Glasshouse feels quiet and tucked away even in a tourist town. The location, clean rooms, and comfort were all excellent, and the staff were friendly, polite, and helpful. The chef’s cooking really impressed me. I hope I can stay here again.

The river is easy to reach, and the mountain and river views are beautiful. We loved the welcoming staff and fabulous service, and enjoyed every bit of our stay. The property is on a mountainside, though. With our four-year-old, we didn’t mind going up and down all day, but it could be difficult for someone with mobility issues. I’d recommend it.

We ended up wishing we could stay longer after our two nights at Neemrana’s Glasshouse. We were in the Barbet, and since the neighboring room was empty, the whole balcony was ours. It was cozy and comfortable, with views of the Ganges and Himalayas. My boyfriend proposed by the riverbank a little way from the resort. It was a special, epic moment, and we had privacy apart from the occasional rafters passing downstream earlier in the day. The staff were kind and helpful, and the whole place was clean and well looked after. After the proposal they went out of their way to arrange dinner by the fire with candles. We’d spent a month traveling around India, and Neemrana’s food was the best we had. Everything we ordered was delicious. We also got a free yoga lesson with an instructor from Rishikesh. It was challenging for beginners like us, though I’m sure a simpler, more relaxing session would have been possible if we’d asked. I came away with ideas for mixing strength work, stretching, and breathing into my practice, plus useful advice on doing the poses correctly. The resort is minutes from Vashishtha Gufa Ashram and a little over an hour from Devprayag, where two rivers meet to form the Ganges. I can’t think of anything I’d change about this quiet nature getaway. We’ll definitely return.

We only stopped at Neemrana for a meal, but it was excellent. The restaurant is pretty, surrounded by greenery, with a glimpse of the river. Staff welcomed us warmly, and the food tasted fresh and full of flavor. We had Chicken tikaa, Veg pulao, and dahi aloo, and enjoyed every dish.
