Stream Valley Cottages

Streem Valley Cottage Vithiry is in Old Vythiri near Lakkidi, on Mullanpara Road in Wayanad district, Kerala, India. It's surrounded by tea and coffee plantations in the Western Ghats, with views of valleys and streams. The property has independent cottages on stilts, ground-level units, twin cottages, and tree houses. It's a cozy three-star resort with a peaceful nature-retreat feel, suited to couples and families. Amenities include an in-house restaurant, spa and body massage, library, free parking, and 24-hour service.

The area is huge, with lots to explore, and there's an outdoor play area for kids. The restaurant has a carrom board too. The staff were decent and the food was good, but room service and food service took quite a bit of our time, so service could improve. Stream valley cottages is a beautiful, eco-friendly property in Vythiri, with many stand-alone cottages. The lawn is beating, with a walkway that shows nature at its best. The rooms are nice and have balconies overlooking a seamlessly flowing river. It offers privacy for a group of friends who want to party alone.

The rooms are beautifully finished with wood and feel really comfortable. The entrance has a lovely view, and the grounds around the deluxe cottages are especially green, with bamboo and plenty of trees. There’s lots of parking, and the staff are friendly and accommodating. It’s quiet too. Food was the biggest letdown: the taste was below average, vegetarian choices were very limited, and service was painfully slow. They only had one tawa, so four people couldn’t be served at the same time. There isn’t much to do at the resort either, apart from a carrom board. The so-called “origin of kabini” is basically a small drain, though it wasn’t very dirty. The resort is a little off the main road, about a five-minute drive in the dark, and quite far from attractions like Banasura dam and lakkidi view point.

The balcony was the best part for us. We spent hours there looking at the greenery and the clear stream just 15 feet from the room, with the usual evening rain in Wayanad. Our room was right by the bridge and stairs down to the water. Some cottages aren’t beside the stream, so their views may be quite different. On a morning walk we also noticed bushes at the far ends of the property, which explains why some guests feel those areas aren’t maintained. We liked the green surroundings, though I understand the complaint. We booked the day before, on a Sunday, and after I called, they offered to upgrade us from Deluxe to Super Deluxe. They also arranged a room next to the stream as requested. Finding the place was easy with Google Maps, and it’s on the same road as Vythiri Resort. The surrounding area doesn’t look like much, but the grounds have a jungle feel. There wasn’t a marked parking area, so I left my bike under a tree; cars were parked on the large lawn nearby. The room was spacious and clean, with a bedroom, a dining area that doubled as a kitchen, and a large balcony with two chairs. The dining area had a table and chairs, TV, kettle, and a sofa facing the glass balcony door. The bedroom had glass windows looking onto the greenery. The bathroom was clean, but there was no geyser. There was no AC, though we didn’t need one during our first week of May visit. Staff were courteous and quick. They made dinner as we asked, without spice, and it was tasty. Breakfast was included, with set dosa, bread and jam, bread omelet, and upma. The servings were huge, and tasty, though a bit spicy. We had a really good stay and got the cottage for an unbelievable 1900 through GoIbibo. Ask for either Nanda or Nalanda rooms, they’re the best.
