There are signs of the grandeur this place may have had decades ago, but now it feels like a shell of its former self. I'd heard bad things and was warned I'd be disappointed, and unfortunately that was my experience. At the entrance, the X-ray scanner wasn't working, so security manually checked my belongings. It felt outdated and unprofessional. The receptionist tried to be polite, but the welcome came across as forced and insincere, one of the least sincere greetings I've had.

The staff are super friendly and always ready to help. There are large rooms, a clean swimming pool, a big, fresh gym, and a very nice garden and setting. Best buffet and restaurant!

The hotel itself was magnificent, a real example of well-designed Iraqi architecture. But at checkout, the staff didn't tell us we'd have trouble getting back in to collect our bags, even though our flight was later that night. When we ran into an issue with green area security, they didn't help or accommodate us at all.

This luxurious hotel is a reminder of Iraq's glorious era, and the service is very convenient. The drawback is its location inside the green zone, where access is very restricted. If you just want a quick byte, skip the ground-floor open buffet, which charges the same high rate regardless of what you eat. The garden restaurant has more affordable options.
