Apotek Guesthouse

We paid 350€ for two nights in one room with shared bathrooms, but left after just one night. The price felt completely unrealistic for a place that was loud and had very dirty, poorly maintained toilets and bathrooms. At 10PM, when we arrived very late, checking in at the Restaurant made me uncomfortable. There were three Bartenders, but it took a while for anyone to acknowledge me, as their high society guests seemed to come first. If it had cost less, I wouldn’t have complained. That same night we found a great hotel with a hot tub for much less, and checked out as soon as possible the next morning.

We barely slept, getting maybe three hours before a rough day, thanks to Apotek Guesthouse Akureyri. Teenagers were screaming outside, and we couldn’t fall asleep until 4:00am. Our room faced the street where everybody was partying. Management should have warned us about that particular summer weekend, when sleep seemed nearly impossible. Booking a place to sleep without that warning was unacceptable. I wouldn’t stay here on a summer weekend unless you have very strong ear plugs.

The radiator was leaking and gave off a horrible smell. There was already a bowl under it, so the hotel must have known about the problem and still sold the room. The manager couldn’t move us, and offered only two beers and fries as compensation for staying in that awful-smelling room. Then the bartender went back on the offer and was very rude. A horrible experience.

The penthouse was in a quiet spot with a good location, and I loved that they had a cat. It had lots of nice equipment, although the kitchen lacked supplies to use all of it, like a baking tray for the oven. I also couldn’t get some of the electricity to work, or maybe I just couldn’t figure it out. These are mostly small complaints that didn’t affect my stay. I’d recommend it 🙂
