Viking Cottages and Apartments

The private hot tub made our two-night stay especially memorable, since we could watch the aurora from it. The cottages sit among the trees across the fjord from town, and this was one of my favorite places we stayed in Iceland. We also appreciated having good showers, laundry with a dryer for our swimsuits before packing, and a kitchen.

We had a lovely four-night stay in 15B. It’s quiet, has great views, and is only a 5-10 minute drive from the town centre, with the Forest Lagoon nearby. The cottage was modern, clean, warm throughout, and the cupboards were so well stocked that we’d already bought coffee and olive oil unnecessarily. The outdoor hot tub was great and easy to fill and empty. My only small gripe was the weak microwave. If the label said six minutes, we had to cook things for about 2.5 times as long. Otherwise, I can’t think of anything I disliked. We’ll be back in Akureyri, and this place will be high on our list.

The floor heating was my favorite part in winter, and the hot tub was cosy too. It’s a very nice cottage on a hillside, with views over Akureyri and the mountains. Everything was easy to use, service was good, and getting access after booking was straightforward.

We had a spectacular view of the northern lights from outside the front or back of the place on a mostly clear winter night. We saw them on two of our four nights, though of course there’s no guarantee. The mountains, fjord, and town of Akureyri also made a lovely view, and my wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our four-night stay. Benedikt answered our questions by email. We didn’t rent a car and used the local taxi company to travel to and from town. That added some expense, but it worked well for us; other guests used taxis too, while some rented cars. We strongly recommend staying here, and hope you get lucky with the lights as we did.
