Hotel Eskifjörður

This hotel used to be a bank. It gets a bit cold because the radiators need bleeding, and there's no staff after a certain hour. Getting to the second floor is awkward too: you have to go downstairs, then back upstairs, and there’s no elevator. The whole town smells of fish.

Our balcony looked out onto an amazing view, and the room stayed dark even during the summer solstice thanks to the thick curtains. Manager Sophia was fantastic. The only supermarket in town is directly across the street, which is handy. If you're staying in this part of Iceland, this is the place to book. You won't be let down.

The rooms were spacious, clean, and modern, and breakfast was delicious, with fresh fruit and vegetables. The owners kept topping things up as they ran low. This is a cosy little hotel run by a husband and wife who were both very friendly and helpful. We had to leave early, and they even took our postcards to the post office for us. We enjoyed staying here and would highly recommend it.

Breakfast was limited, but good. Our room was on the second floor, though getting our luggage there was a pain: down one set of stairs, around to the back, then up two flights. The hotel itself was nice.
