Umi Hotel

The restaurant alone made the stay feel easy. Every dish looked lovely and tasted great, with fresh, quality ingredients. It was worth the 2h 45 min drive from Keflavik Airport. The hotel is a real hidden gem for peace and quiet. My room was incredibly calm, and the staff were welcoming and attentive.

The sauna was the standout for us, with big glass walls looking out over nature while you relax. The restaurant was another highlight, serving flavourful, nicely presented food with an elegant touch. It was a welcome change from the more ordinary Icelandic food we came across on our trip. The rooms were clean and comfortable, with a good bed and temperature. The hotel feels quite new and is clearly well maintained. Staff were caring and welcoming throughout, and the lobby was a lovely spot to sit with family or friends, play board games, enjoy a glass of wine, and look out at the surrounding landscape.

The comfortable property still left us wanting more. We’d expected a lot based on the hotel’s branding and advertising, especially the references to Michelin standards, but the experience didn’t live up to that promise. We were three people, and none of us liked our meals. The restaurant was particularly disappointing, and the food was nowhere near what we’d call Michelin caliber.

Dinner was amazing, especially the Duck Salad and Beetroot main dish, and breakfast was great too. The wellness centre has an outstanding view. I’d give the hotel 11 out of 10 if the gym had a treadmill.
