Guesthouse Dalbaer

For a reasonable price, everything was alright. The location was convenient, and our spacious double room was quite clean, including the bathroom. It had a lovely view, and the beds were comfortable enough. The shared kitchen had plenty of equipment, though it felt a bit small for all the guests. My only real downside was the strong room perfume. You could smell it throughout the house.

We had a comfortable upstairs double room for our one-night stay in June, and enjoyed the porch and hot tub. The room was clean, the bed was good, and the farm setting is gorgeous. It's a perfectly adequate guesthouse with fair amenities. We got there later than planned, just after dinner. The host was available to check us in, though he seemed annoyed we hadn't arrived sooner. In the shared bathroom, there wasn't a proper shower, just a shower handle in the tub. Also, the shades barely blocked the summer light, so bring a sleep mask. In the morning we had a nice light breakfast, then returned the key and checked out quickly. Easy.

I wouldn't recommend staying here. My room was dirty, and I got bedbugs. The shower drain was clogged, which isn't surprising with one bathroom for seven people, and there was mold in the bathroom. Everything felt old and unclean. The woman at the front desk also made sure I didn't feel welcome. If you stay anyway, bring earplugs, because the animals are noisy at night.

The rural setting is lovely, but it didn't make up for how badly I slept. I live in a 130-year-old house with the occasional squeaky floorboard, so I was especially disappointed by this place. In the smaller house, the walls were so thin that whenever the man next door bumped into the wall, the partition shook. It happened a lot, and I could hear most of their conversation, midnight intimacy, and giggling. A bed frame squeaked at random times too. Probably the worst sleep I've had. The hot water also seems to come from underground, with the same sulphur smell as the nearby geysers.
