Ocean Break Cabins

The kitchen diner was well equipped, but we lost access to electricity for several hours during the building work. We couldn't use the kitchen, and had to throw away the breakfast food we'd bought since we were flying that day. I called management and emailed twice, but got no reply. That lack of communication was incredibly disappointing. The construction started loudly at 7am, close enough that workers parked in our assigned space. It carried on for our entire stay and was still happening when we left. We had booked Cabin 3, advertised as a deluxe cottage. The listing said there was a BBQ, but only after we arrived were we told BBQs are available from May. It hadn't been mentioned on the booking site, and it was one reason we chose the cabin. The bedrooms were also much smaller than expected. The second room, with tiny bunk beds, seemed suitable only for very young children, not older kids or adults. This wasn't the stay we were led to expect or the one we paid for. With the listing issues, constant noise, power cut, and no response from management, I can't recommend Ocean Beach Cabins based on this experience.

The cabin was cute, with good kitchen and cooking facilities, and we really enjoyed the hot tub. It made for a lovely escape and overnight stay, though it was quite expensive for just one night. Getting there without a car is difficult. We paid $80 CAD each way to and from the airport, even though it's only 15 mins away. There's very little around: the nearest town is a 50 min walk and there's essentially nothing there. I'd probably suggest taking the bus and staying in Reykjavik instead, unless you have a car or are looking to get away from the city's busyness.

We saw the northern lights even on a night with "low level activity," and the hot tubs were a lovely extra. The rooms were very clean and had what we needed, including a really well-equipped kitchen. Check-in was seamless. A great place to stay for a few nights while exploring, and I thoroughly recommend it.

We booked at the last minute after checking the aurora forecast, and were so pleased with our choice. The views were perfect, the mattress was comfortable, and the radiator heated the cabin very effectively. Everything was spotless, and the hot tub instructions were clear and easy to follow. There was even a family of swans just outside the main bedroom window. It was a great place to slow down before going to the airport. I hadn't realized cabins A and B share a wall. It wasn't a problem, even with another family staying next door and using their hot tub.
