The most unforgettable part came weeks after our stay. My wife left her camera on a picnic bench just outside Holmavik, and the people at Gistihus Holmavikur, with help from a generous local fisherman, went out of their way to get it back to us. Someone drove all the way from Holmavik to Reykjavik so we’d have it in time for our flight to the US. It was one of the most touching things I’ve experienced anywhere in my travels. I’ll never forget the place, and hope I can return to thank them in person. While we were there, the family-run place felt warm and cozy, with clean, amazing rooms and an unbelievable waterfront view. Ingi, the young man who checked us in, was a pleasure to talk to, and his dad was very nice too. Staying there was a highlight of our Ring Road drive. PS: there’s an awesome pizza place up the street. For a real Icelandic hot tub experience, not a tourist trap, make the short drive to Drangsnes, and take cash.
