Laxnes Hotel

The staff made this place for us. Erik, the guy at the bar, was so friendly, and Kevin, a Colombian staff member we met, was great too. In the morning, lovely Anna showed us how to use the safety apps. We got a great room, a flat, for the price, and could watch the northern lights from its balcony. The location was good, about 15 minutes from Reykjavík. There's nothing bad I can say about the hotel. We'll definitely return on another trip to Iceland, and I'd recommend it to everyone.

The room was clean, the Wi-Fi was good, and breakfast was decent. Still, the beds weren't comfortable, and the value for money wasn't among the best I've had in Iceland.

We stayed here twice, once heading to Snaefellsnes and again on the way back to Reykjavik. It was low season in October, so I thought the price was okay, though there was an extra 800 ISK tax each night. On our second stay, we saw the Aurora from the skylight. We'd gone out chasing it an hour earlier because of the fog, but by the time we returned the fog had completely cleared. There was a G2 solar storm that night and the view was marvellous. Some trees got in the way, though. The hotel sits along the ring road, and the trees may offer more privacy, but they partly blocked the northern lights. The ground-floor rooms had a little sink area like a kitchenette, but there wasn't really a way to cook in the room, and the hotel had no shared kitchen. You could make simple meals that don't need many appliances, or pick things up at the supermarkets nearby, which was convenient. I'd stay here again.

We had an awesome stay. The rooms were spacious, with a great balcony and Velux window offering lovely views. The staff were friendly, and the drinks weren't overpriced. It was just right for us.
