Ambassade Apartments

We stayed somewhere different every night of our trip, and this was one of the best. It was a tidy apartment with a kitchen and living area, simple and elegant, with no fuss. The street was quiet, and we could walk to plenty of amenities and attractions in Reykjavik.

We only had one evening at Ambassadade Apartments, and wished we could have stayed longer. It would make a great home base for a longer visit. The hostess was very nice and accommodating, and our “room with a view” looked out across all of Reykjavik from different angles through large windows. The apartments are large and comfortable, with good wifi, television, a kitchen, coffee, and a nice bathroom. It’s right in the center of Reykjavik. The only drawbacks were the three flights of stairs and no breakfast. There are countless good dining options a short walk away and a good supermarket across the street. If you don’t want one of the luxury hotels, Ambassade Apartments is an excellent option.

The location was good for downtown, but that was the only plus. The WiFi was worthless and very unreliable. Our third-floor apartment had no fire escape, the beds weren’t made daily, and the ceilings were very low. There was no shower, so we had to use the bathtub, and the spiral staircase was very steep. I was quite surprised American Express recommended this property.

The location is very good, and from the attic there’s a nice view of the church. Getting up to apartment 5 could be difficult with larger luggage because the staircase is narrow. Booking at the last minute is much, much cheaper.
