The room was small, just enough space for the bed and not much else. The shared kitchen was basic, but it had the utensils we needed. It’s a reasonable guesthouse on the older side of town, with Harpa concert hall about a 10-minute walk away.

I’d never booked a room with a shared bathroom before, but I’d do it again at Day Dream. The shower was always clean, and the bathroom is shared by just five rooms. The room’s furniture and bed were comfortable and not old. Everything is handled digitally, with the pin sent by email before you arrive. It’s a good-value option right in the heart of Reykjavik. The port restaurant is a five-minute walk, the cathedral and main tourist road are 16 minutes away, and the bus station is 21 minutes away. There’s also a bakery nearby where you can get the famous Icelandic cinnamon roll for breakfast.

This was the only place on my Iceland itinerary where I shared a room with someone. After I got home, I noticed bed bug bites all over my ankles and arms. The hygiene was horrible.

I booked through Expedia in December, but found large amounts of black mold in the bathroom. Please be careful. We left and stayed somewhere else.
