Hotel Holt - The Art Hotel

There’s a lot of art around Hotel Holt, especially in the common areas, which gives the place a distinctive and pleasant feel. The hotel is elegant and centrally located in a quiet part of Reykjavik, making many main attractions easy to reach on foot. The staff were polite and helpful, and the rooms were clean and tidy. Still, the decor feels dated and could use renovation to match what I’d expect from a 4-star hotel. Comfort was decent but nothing special, and breakfast was good though the selection was limited compared with similar hotels. It’s a good option for the location and atmosphere, but I think the value for money could be better.

From our room on the fourth floor, we had a great view of the city, and most of the good sights were close by. We stayed in a junior suite. It was a bit old, but really beautiful. This is an old-school hotel with plenty of charm, right down to the physical room keys instead of cards.

The hotel’s best feature is its location, an eight-minute walk from downtown Reykjavik. Wi-Fi in the room was free and pretty fast, but the TV was useless, with only a few Icelandic channels and no account support. We paid about $389 USD per night for a very small room and bathroom. The room was barely bigger than the bed, with just enough space to walk around it. There was a hair dryer, but little else, no safe or mini fridge. The elevator was so small it could barely fit two people and two suitcases, so we had to make several trips. The downstairs decor was beautiful, and the service was good. We booked one night for the first day of our vacation and another for the last night. For that price I expected more room. We had no problems, but I’m not sure I’d stay again.

We were only there for one night, and it was perfect for that stop. Hotel Holt is very central for exploring the city, and the helpful, friendly staff were accommodating. The hotel has an older Art Deco vintage feel; our room was small but comfortable. There’s a tiny parking lot, but we got a spot and left the car there until checkout the next day. The bar was closed during our visit, and we didn’t try breakfast.
