Studlagil INN Hostel

There were lots of breakfast options, and complimentary tea was always available. Dinner choices were delicious and hearty, and the rooms were clean. A great place to see the northern lights from. I'd stay again!

We had a great one-night stay while driving around the island. The hotel is a short drive from Studlagil, and everyone was really nice. The outside looks a little old, but inside it's much newer.

During the blizzard on Mon, 23 March 2026, we had a dreadful drive that put our lives and rental vehicle at risk. A kind Icelandic stranger came to help and led a convoy of stranded cars to the nearest hotel for shelter. We called the hotel we had originally booked, and they graciously canceled our booking because of the extreme weather. On Thu 26 Mar 2026 at 13:30, with roads already closed because of the ongoing blizzard, we called Hotel Studlagil to cancel that night's booking. We tried reaching both the hotel staff and Expedia over the following hour, but our request was refused. There was no empathy for our situation. Because the roads were closed, we had to scramble to book two more hotel room-nights where we were staying so we could take shelter from the snowstorm. None of us wanted this to happen, but inflexible policies at businesses such as Hotel Studlagil leave a bad impression on foreign tourists.

The service was superb, and everyone working there was so kind. Our room was clean and the beds were comfortable. We stayed one night during our Ring Road trip, and the location is perfect for exploring Studlagil Canyon. I didn't give it five stars because we came in through the non-hotel side, the only door that was unlocked at the time, and it felt a bit creepy. The food was just okay.
