Skammidalur Guesthouse

The view is a real highlight, including a tiny waterfall behind the guesthouse. Our room was roomy, with a large comfortable bed, and having two bathrooms plus a separate shower room meant no waiting. The kitchen has some gear, though a frying pan would be useful since there are only pots. The small blue entrance sign is easy to miss until the last moment, so a bigger sign would make pulling in safer.

Cottage #3 has a lovely view over the farmland, bay, and Dyrholaey, with sheep, horses, and little waterfalls on the steep slope behind it. Inside, space is tight for moving around or storing things, but workable. There’s a microwave, stovetop and cookware, fridge, and dishwasher, plus a wall table that folds away. The large living room and bedroom windows have good blackout curtains, though the front door window lets light in. Clouds or an eye mask help. It’s shower only, no bath.

The separate little guest houses are quiet, and mine seemed brand new, with that fresh wood smell. I liked the comfortable bed, the kitchen and bathroom amenities, and the blinds that work without a chain. The shower itself was great, although a bit of water may escape onto the main bathroom floor since it’s level with the shower and has no splash guard. Nothing major.

We stayed in a family room in the main house, with bunk beds our kid was excited about. There were several bathroom and shower options, and self check-in and checkout were easy. Great value for the price, and we’d come back.
