Hotel Vogar

At USD 230 a night, this felt like a musty motel that ought to cost around USD 50. The heating didn't work properly, there was no available outlet for the refrigerator, and the Wi-Fi was slow. The location is awful for getting basics, with no supermarket or bakery nearby. For that price I expected MUCH better. It feels like a rip-off. At USD 50 a night, I would've rated it higher. Learn.

The two older gentlemen running the place were very kind. The rooms were good enough, but the walls are so thin that my neighbor and I could talk while staying in our own rooms. Breakfast was also too expensive for what you get, 20 euros for nothing special. I know Iceland is pricey if you're not from here, but that still doesn't feel okay to me.

It's a pretty boring place, but spacious and fine if you just need somewhere to sleep and go. Close to the blue lagoon, too. I really appreciated the microwave in the lobby and the tourist maps and brochures. It was our first day in Iceland, and the car rental company hadn't given us any information.

We planned to stay four nights because the hotel sits conveniently between the airport and Reykjavik, but ended up moving elsewhere. The room felt old, and the mattress springs made the bed uncomfortable for us. We also found it more expensive than other hotels from the same trip, despite less comfort, quality, and nearby facilities. The receptionist was friendly when we arrived, though he wasn't much help with information about the area or hotel services, and said the owner would be back in the following days. Keep in mind that booking through Booking or Expedia doesn't include breakfast, it costs an extra 20 euros per person. We had to drive 20 minutes to find an open restaurant for dinner.
