Hotel Splendid

The friendly, helpful staff made our long weekend a really lovely break, and the private sandy beach, lake access, outdoor pool, wellness area and gym gave us plenty to enjoy. The rooms were clean and well equipped, and there’s a taxi boat stop right there, which makes it a handy base for seeing other parts of the lake. A couple of things could be better. The air conditioning controls didn’t work, so we had to call reception whenever we wanted to switch it on or off or adjust the temperature. Also expect extra charges: there’s a 5% service fee on everything, including the restaurant and wellness facilities. There’s no place to iron clothes, and using an iron in the room is forbidden. The hotel offers an ironing service, but it’s pricey, 15€ for a dress or 5€ per shirt, plus the 5% fee.

I’m especially grateful for the empathy and help the staff showed me during my week and a half there. They were exceptionally kind, and the rooms and views were beautiful too.

The food was very tasty, and our room was quite nice and well put together. The location is a real plus, and it’s a decent place to stay, but there’s a lot of potential here that isn’t being met. Service could be more helpful, and practically everything costs extra, even the gym and umbrellas. With fewer separate charges, this could be a great hotel, maybe even five-star.

We barely got to use them because our tour guide kept us busy, but the outdoor seating areas were excellent. The hotel has lovely views and a great location, with several restaurants and a small grocery store an easy walk away. The breakfast buffet was excellent, and the rooms, lounge and dining area were beautiful. The air conditioning didn’t cool our room properly, and we heard the same about other rooms. Late at night we had to open the balcony’s sliding glass door to make the room comfortable. By the time we got back in the afternoon, it was hot again. Ice was only available by the glass at the bar, which wasn’t convenient from the third floor. There was just one outlet in the room, across from the bed, and no USB ports, so bring an adapter for phone charging.
